About Communication

Our central goal with this course has been to incorporate current communication theory, cultural studies, and contemporary issues into a conversation about public advocacy in our current times. This project invigorates the introductory courses of our field, making their content more relevant, timely, and culturally significant.

In this course, students will explore how we produce our world through communication. Students will also be challenged to explore power, ideology, and diversity through interactions ranging from the intimate to the public. Chapters in this course include particular communication scenarios that encourage readers to contextualize theories, concepts, and ideas, locating these always within the lives of people embedded in (and working to fashion) systems of culture and power.
